Search Scams
We get emails all the time from companies
offering to make our web sites rank high in search engine
results, typically, they look like this:
|
- Generally, top flight optimization
companies have more business than they can shake a stick at
and you will not see emails or letters like this from them.
And reputable company emails will show a legit company address, not
lucy@gmail.com or some
such.
- If there's a guarantee - unlikely as it
may seem, you may have a problem. There is no way anyone can
guarantee search engine rankings other than the paid sponsor,
or legit local
links.
- Submissions to search engines - if this
is the focus of their efforts. Generally, you do not need to
submit a site to search engines more than once, and only the
big 3 search engines need be used. Yes, being in all search
engines is nice, 97% of your traffic usually comes from the
big 3.
- Your prospective optimization company
should give you a full and frank disclosure on their method
of obtaining rankings, never deal with a company that has a
"secret" methodology.
- Rankings can take months for new web
sites and "do-overs", be wary of promises of rankings in
days.
- Never pay all fees "up-front", there may
be a initial payment to cover immediate costs of reworking
your site and monthly or quarterly payments thereafter.
