Obviously, the higher you
rank for your keywords, the more traffic you get (and at no click-thru

Link Exchanges
Incoming links can be a big
factor; exchanging links with similar sites or in related fields can not only drive targeted traffic, but help
your search engine rankings.
Explore related sites, and follow-thru on an aggressive program of
link exchanges with any relative site you can find. Set up special
resource pages for these links rather than lump them all on one page if
you can. For example, if you have a shoe store in Atlanta, you can
feature a special resources page on local Atlanta podiatrists, they in
turn elect to link to you on their site, especially if you sell
orthopedic shoes - a win-win for both sites. This is a little understood
method and much often abused - a link from a UK car hire just isn't much
use to a shoe store - search engines are not counting these links for
much anymore without relevancy.
PPC (pay-per-click) Campaigns
PPC campaigns are highly effective. Monitoring is very important to
maximize your ROI. Results are immediate and can help you track what
works. Google leads the pack, here with Yahoo second and MSN way back in
3rd.
Paid Media Advertising
Paid advertising programs and links in newspaper, radio and other media can also be
effective, here. If you run an ad anywhere - always mention your website.
It's not always necessary that you pound it home, just remind them that
you have a site, they should find you easily enough. This means
billboards, letterheads, business cards, etc.
Paying for ads and banners on other sites
You may encounter web sites sitting in top
spots for your keywords that will allow you to place an ad or banner.
You can track these referrals with your stats program to ascertain their
effectiveness.
Social Networking
The new "in" thing. This would include relevant, blogs,
videos and picture. Some you can utilize for free, some want $.
Personally, for a lot of us this is marginal.

sites - and as an "authoritative site, it lends weight to the link and
helps the clients ranking.
